Become a Trustee
We are seeking dynamic and passionate people to join our fantastic Trustee Board at Evolution Academy Trust.
We are a primary-specialist multi-academy trust based in Norfolk and Suffolk, with 3,000 pupils and 500 staff. We provide our 12 schools with the assistance, tools and foundations to enable pupils and staff to grow, develop and thrive.
We give schools the highly effective central support they need, alongside the autonomy to make their own choices depending local knowledge and requirements, enabling leaders to focus on school improvement and outcomes for children.
What is a Trustee?
The board of Trustees is responsible for the general control and management of the administration of the MAT. The core functions of the role are:
- Ensuring clarity of the vision, ethos and strategic direction.
- Holding the Executive Leaders to account for the educational performance of the schools and pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff.
- Overseeing the financial performance of the schools and making sure that money is well spent.
The role of a Trustee is a voluntary, unpaid one for people who have the energy and skills to make a real contribution to shaping the future of our schools. To help our MAT and its schools fulfill their potential, Trustees are needed who can bring a wide range of skills and experience ideally from different industry sectors.
Commitment
It is expected that Trustees will spend six - ten hours a month (during term time) to Trust business. This will include meeting preparation, online training and Trustee briefing sessions.
Trustees are expected to attend:
- Trust Board meetings: six per year. These are scheduled well in advance and take place in person or online (usually on Thursdays) from 5.30-7pm. We operate a hybrid approach to attendance, so are happy to consider applications from those who would be able to attend online only.
- Trustee sub-committee meetings: three - six per year depending on responsibilities; these are held online.
- One in person event a year - our annual Trust celebration day, held at the end of the summer term. This date will be set 12-18 months in advance.
Trustees are encouraged to occasionally visit Trust schools if possible in order to provide a more detailed insight to support discussions at Trust Board meetings.
What is it like to be a Trustee at Evolution Academy Trust?
The whole team were supportive and made me feel very welcome; and I do believe that I am able to gently challenge and support the thinking and direction of the Trust in a constructive way; which makes me feel that I am helping to make a difference to the future of our children.- Cathy Armor, Trustee
The board of trustees is of a high quality and cares passionately about doing better for all schools in the trust. I have found an open and transparent environment where challenge is encouraged. I get a lot personally out of being a trustee, including making a difference in key areas and seeing first hand the challenges faced by primary schools in particular in the current environment. My sense is that all trusteesbelieve their input is both useful and, importantly, valued.- Steve Davidson, Trustee
